Planetary servo actuator
A servo motor drives a sun–planet–ring gearset. The fixed ring reacts torque while the carrier provides reduced-speed output.

What each part does.
Power path: Servo motor → sun → planet gears → carrier → output.
- Servo drive & encoder
- Feedback and a servo inverter command motor torque, velocity and position.
- Servo motor
- A permanent-magnet rotor transfers input torque through its shaft to the sun gear.
- Planetary gearset
- The sun and planets mesh with an internal ring. The carrier is the output; stages may be cascaded.
- Output support
- Precision bearings carry output loads and control shaft alignment.
- Carrier & output shaft
- Planet pins are supported by the carrier, which transfers the combined torque to the output.
- Fixed ring housing
- The internal ring is fixed to the enclosure and reacts transmission torque.
Machines that call for it.
Industrial robots & cobots
A serial robot compounds the behaviour of every joint. Reducer stiffness, bearing support and calibration all influence the motion delivered at the end effector.

Handling and assembly cells bring rotary indexing, linear transfer and end-effector motion into one coordinated process.

Legged platforms meet changing contact forces with joint torque control. Efficient, responsive axes help the machine adapt without carrying unnecessary joint mass.
